The Remote Roadie Suite
RemoteRoadie suite provides both a more powerful interface layer
between Lirc (the Linux Infrared Remote
Control) and Xmms (the X MultiMedia
System), and a set of tools to manage your digital music files and
playlists.
Xmms -- probably the most popular tools for playing a wide variety of
digital music under linux -- is even more powerful when combined with
Lirc which enables a user to control nearly anything on their linux
system through a common IR remote control. RemoteRoadie provides a
layer between Xmms and Lirc which greatly expands the breadth and depth
of control afforded as compared to other solutions (i.e. the Lirc
plugin for Xmms).
Here is a short list of Remote Roadies features:
- Play, pause, stop, skip, change volume, etc.
- Load any playlist via remote by entering a predefined numeric
code
- Randomize all songs in a playlist, while ensuring spacing between
songs by the same artist or on the same album
- Mark songs for deletion from you playlist
In addition, RemoteRoadie provides tools to:
- Create playlists for each artist and album
- Delete all the occurances of songs marked for deletion from you
playlists
- Check each playlist to ensure that all songs are valid files
- Control Xmms through a command line interface or web interface
the web interface isn't distributed yet, but will be shortly)
- Automatically generate the playlist database
- Update your ID3 tags and sort your mp3 files
Documentation for the suite of tools and the server in particular can
be found here.
The software can be downloaded here
. Version 0.21a has been updated to be substantially more stable and
work with Perl 5.8.
More documentation and a much better website should be forth coming
shortly.
